i decided i would make a little cut out paper toy for everyone.
it's probably best to print it out on thick card or water colour paper, if you wanted to be really snazzy you could print off two and stick them together so it has a back and a front. the one i printed off is a little blue tinted, im not sure if this is from my scanner or lack of printer ink. if it is a problem with the scan let me know.
enjoy crafting, and if you want come up with a story for your town tapir.

stuck in the mud
now here is a picture that is generally a bit kerfuddled. in one of the film adaptations of les miserables there is a little chimney sweep almost hidden behind the clutter of the tools he carries. I thought i'd draw a similar chimney sweep myself. the only problem is i couldn't really remember what said chimney sweep looked like, i definitely know mine is a more colourfully attired character.
i didn't feel especially like drawing them as a child so i added some clint eastwood eye wrinkling. then i decided that my character could probably pass for a woman. so i gave her a skirt. and the end reslut is a tad interetsing.
i also plan to move away from these melancholy pictures of jacketed people standing out in the void. somebody remind me to do some different stuff next time.

done! and with minimal sunburn
if you enjoy the hum of electrical resistance i suggest you take some time out of your busy schedule to stop at the corner of marion and elswick st leichhardt. for there lurks the site of my shiny, newly painted meter box.
my box design is kind of about finding things and people and looks back at james norton finding the second love of hs life (marian) for whom the street is named after.
sure, the hands look a little oversimplified and the rain has left its mark on one side but that's the appeal of council commisioned art. lets see how long it takes for it to get vandalised.

if you're in the art gallery of nsw anytime...
i just had the best dog walk i've had in a long while. The air was ice cold and the wind was so strong that as it sounded just like styrofoam as it rushed past my ears. I actually managed to outrun my dog for the better half of the time.
On this positive note i thought that i would post some pictures of my va book that is now on display as part of art express. However i could not find any proper documntation so here are some bits that didn't make it in. The first two pictures are extra illustrations, the rest are storyboards and reference photos.

For those not in the know my artwork is a nonlinear narrative (don't cringe yet) and exploration of identity (feel free to cringe now). however it is displayed under glass, open on one random spread so most of this narrative is lost. Oh well.
a big thanks to all of my old art class, georgia symons, my aunt michelle and my mum. And certainly the good people at Newbold and Collins bookbinding.

big creepy bird things
i present for your consideration a study inspired by north american wood carvings and thunderbird legends. It came out fairly well considering that i chose terribly porous paper, and for a while was mixing my paints and inks with lemonade. Now that i look at it it seems awful similair to the skeksis...

sketchbook samplaa
in lieu of some proper finished artwork i thought i would include some extracts from my sketchbook.
My cousin asked me to draw him a superhero character of his, he gave me some very precise instructions which for the most part i forgot. In amongst a couple of iterations of muscly sasquatchian he-men i drew this guy. I remember the musician 'muscles' relating an annecdote on the radio about being electrocuted whislst wearing a string of fairy lights around his neck, it sounded like a good enough way to get superpowers if you ask me.
Feel free to suggest a thought bubble or speech bubble via facebook.
This is an example of a fairly average page in my sketchbook, a smattering of various ideas including some of my cavemen characters, reptiles and general weirdos. There were a couple of prelimenary sketches for the lady in the forest in the artwork i made for my aunts, however the scanner refuses to recognise 6H pencil.

i have returned
Happy new year etc. on that note i thought i would post some more stuff.
as some of you may well know i am fond of drawing bouldiferous (for lack of a real word) looking giants. Here is one i recently painted using inks, the face seems to have come out rather dark compared to the original, and attempts at photoshoping it just left lots of red and green. regardless i am quite fond of the sky.
